Experience
Sports Coaching
Failing to find satisfaction in many of the jobs he tried in his teens and early 20’s, at 24 years old, Jack began his coaching journey at the Brecon Beacons mountain range in Wales. Here he completed a variety of qualifications in paddle sports and other outdoor pursuits. This prepared him for his first summer season of coaching work. He spent the first half of season in Hauteville-sur-mer in North-West France, leading summer camp groups through paddling, climbing, high ropes, hiking and archery experiences. Following on from this, he moved further North to the Ardes lakes where he specialised in flat water paddle sports coaching for the remainder of the summer.
Ski Coaching
Inspired by the prior summer’s events and wishing to continue his coaching journey, Jack selected a gap course program in Tomamu, Japan. Once there, he would take and pass his Level 1 Ski qualification with the NZSIA and start his internship at the Club Med Tomamu resort. As soon as Jack began to teach skiing, he knew he had found his true passion. After spending the season shredding the famed Japanese powder and pestering his senior instructor friends for free training, Jack traveled cross country to Yuzawa where he would take and pass his NZSIA Ski Level 2. This capped off a perfect season and stoked the fire for his future career in snowsports.
Following on from Japan, Jack would begin teaching at the Chill Factor indoor slope in Manchester. He also worked as an Instructor and resort manager for Snowtraxx International, a traveling ski school. This gave him the opportunity to explore many different resorts in Austria, Italy and Switzerland throughout the winter. The subsequent summer would see Jack fly across the world to the Perisher ski resort in Australia for his first Southern-Hemisphere winter.
In December 2019, Jack arrived in Zermatt to begin work with Altitude Ski School’s newest expansion. He has been based there ever since, teaching every winter. During this time he converted to the IASI system, working multiple jobs in order to finance and pass all of the IASI L3 and ISIA stamp exams. Moving towards Level 4, Jack opted to train with us at Subzero. This aided his completion of the L4 teaching exam. Jack is now a year round resident in Zermatt, spending the summers leading kids camps and enjoying his free time on Zermatt’s technical Mountain-biking trails.
